La mayoria de los viajeros que llegan a la región de Avsén lo hacen a través del Aeropuerto de Balmaceda vía aérea. Desde este punto y hasta Coyhaique se inicia una travesía que viaja desde la Pampa al Fiordo con el fin de descubrir la Ruta del Agua. En la parte inicial se puede apreciar un paisaje instenso en pampas y valles de la estepa patagónica, el cual, poco a poco se interna en el valle Simpson, que con sus verdes zonas con buenas pampas aptitudes ganaderas, se comienza a dar vida a la ciudad de Coyhaique. Capital Regional de la Región de Avsén y centro urbano más importante del área.
Coyhaique es una ciudad agradable, completa en servicios básicos, instituciones públicas, restaurantes, alojamientos actividades que la posicionan como un lugar de estacionamiento de un 90% de los visitantes de la región con al menos una noche de estadía en está ciudad existen diversos panoramas y salidas base a los diferentes tour y actividades disponibles de la región y urbe interesante para el espíritu joven.

Reserva Nacional Río Simpson
Llamada así por el Almirante y explorador Enrique Simpson, la Reserva y el río que atraviesan el tramo Coyhaique – Puerto Aysén destacan por su vegetación conformada por bosques siempre verdes de Tepas, Mañíos, Ciruelillos, Canelos y Tepú.
Se recomienda visitar el Centro de Educación Ambiental de Conaf, ubicado en el Km 33 de la Ruta. Se destaca por su sala interactiva v sus senderos de baja dificultad. Es muy interesante visitar las casas de piedra antigua que se encuentran a pocos minutos del sendero, que datan de los primeros tiempos de la región cuando se construían caminos (RutaCH-240) con los mismos árboles que se iban abriendo paso en una de las travesías que enfrentaron los primeros habitantes de la región de Aysén.
El sector río Simpson se muestra como un lugar atractivo de visitar v aprovechar como un espacio de conexión inicial en la Ruta del Agua.
Villa Los Torreones
Un poco más cerca de Puerto Aysén y saliendo de la zona más estrecha de la cordillera se ubica el sector Torreones. Históricamente en este sector las caravanas se detenían un día para continuar su camino a la frontera o al puerto en cada caso.
Hoy se destaca por prestar algunos servicios turísticos, donde resalta el Restaurant Kilómetro 26, con sus empanadas y buena atención de sus dueños. En el lugar hay algunas cabañas, zonas de camping y pesca deportiva en el río Simpson.
Simpson River National Reserve
Named after Admiral and explorer Enrique Simpson, the Reserve and the river that cross the Coyhaique – Puerto Aysén section stand out for their vegetation made up of evergreen forests of Tepas, Mañíos, Ciruelillos, Canelos and Tepú.

Villa Los Torreones
A little closer to Puerto Aysén and leaving the narrowest area of the mountain range is the Torreones sector. Historically in this sector the caravans would stop for a day to continue on their way to the border or the port in each case.
